Last night I was able to finally attend my first band launch for the season. And it was Blue Box Cart. I was excited to attend their launch because of their gorgeous costumes last year. If you’re interested to read my review, click the jump below.
Last Saturday yet another Kadooment band revealed their costume line for the upcoming Crop Over season. Colorz Ent while known for their years in the Foreday Morning band market, is relatively new to the Kadooment band scene. They only launched their band last year and already have improved upon last year’s launch. This year they revealed their concept of EXOTICA: Birds of Paradise, which sees men and women decked out in bird inspired costumes. If you’re interested, click the read more below.
This year Barbados is celebrating its 50th year of Independence. As a result many local businesses are decking out their businesses. It’s common in this month to see stores or banks sporting to the country’s colors. Along with the blue, yellow and black, we are also greeted with images of the broken trident and the 50th anniversary logo. Most definitely, those young and old are coming out to show pride in their nation like never before.
Hello my lovelies, I’m back at it again with another list post and this time it’s on the topic of cosplay and The Caribbean. So I have something to confess to you guys, I…am a cosplayer, haha. But on a real, as a cosplayer within the Caribbean I feel like the community here doesn’t get enough love. We really don’t. A couple years back I did a post about Cosplaying and Convention Culture in the Caribbean. Now I wanted to actually bring the cosplayers to the forefront and feature some cosplayers from this wonderful region.
Not many people know this, but there is a cosplay community in the Caribbean. Some of these countries include Barbados, Jamaica, St. Lucia and Trinidad & Tobago. Like many cosplayers in North America, Europe and Asia, they have their own cosplay pages. So I really wanted to showcase those who have their own pages, even though there are many more without. The cosplayers featured on this page are listed in alphabetical order. Also this is yet again, not a complete list of cosplayers in the region and I would be more than willing to include a ‘Part 2’ to this list, featuring even more Caribbean cosplayers.
Hey guys, I’m back again with another blog. Recently, I have gotten into doing lists! Lists for everything, lists of favorite books, to-do lists, etc.Furthermore it has been a concern of mine that people only see certain facets of Barbados; such as the beach and Kadooment Day. I myself, am guilty of doing that, but it is something that I want to change.
I just have to say, I love YouTube, it has become a part of my daily life. I watch videos from the site almost religiously; in the early morning while getting ready for classes, and even late night when I need help to fall asleep. I’m a picky girl, I’m not going to lie and it’s hard to find the right person that just clicks for me. Now It’s true, there are many black YouTubers, but how many are from the Caribbean and how many from Barbados? Barbados is an island in the Caribbean that has given birth to countless interesting and creative individuals, with the most prominent being Rihanna. So why not introduce to my readers some of our home grown talent?
So I went on a hunt for five Bajan YouTubers that you all should check out. I am by no means saying these are the only Bajan YouTubers about, I would love to think they are more actually. If I find more, I’d be more than willing to make a new post in the future that will feature them as well. This list has been compiled in alphabetical order, these ladies are so talented and motivating that I’m sure you’ll find yourself watching their videos for hours on end.
