Happy Thursday, lovelies. Today I am going to be reviewing a few products from Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils line. Some of you may know that I decided to go back natural in 2013 and big chopped in 2014 after transitioning for a year. You can read more about my hair journey here.
So you may be wondering why I chose Aunt Jackie’s. I was a big Cantu fan before. Like I swore by the product and no could tell me anything about it. However, I realised recently that it left my hair very dry. Even when I used their leave-in conditioner, my hair never felt moisturized enough. And after I found out their leave-in contained isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol), I was like nope and chucked it.
Now I’ve used Aunt Jackie before and I wasn’t a big fan. I felt their products more suited 4a and looser girls. However, a friend of mine had recently told me that they had recommended hair products for girls with 4c hair. I jumped on the website and clicked on the link for products best suited for coily/kinky hair. They recommended a mixture of their coconut creme and flaxseed collection which I never used before so it was worth a shot. I made a list of the products that suited my hair needs and went down to the local beauty supply store.
Aunt Jackie’s Curls and Coils Review
Cleanse – COCO WASH Coconut Milk Conditioning Cleanser
The Coco Wash is described as a sulphate-free co-wash cleanser that cleans your hair without ridding it of the natural oils. Coco wash is especially recommended if you have a coarser textured hair that needs deep moisture.
Honestly, that sounded like right up my alley. I found the co-wash to be not as stripping as a shampoo, so I was able to apply it directly to my roots. When I used the product I noticed that my hair was very elongated and my curls were prominent. That is a good sign of your hair being hydrated. I was also able to detangle easily with this product.
Condition – FIX MY HAIR Intensive Repair Conditioning Masque
Fix My Hair is a deep conditioner that repairs and brings new life to dry and brittle hair. It claims to leave the hair feeling nourished, softer and better strengthened.
At the time, my hair was under a wig for about a month and I felt like it needed some extra conditioning. I added the product to my newly washed hair, making sure to apply in sections. I cover my hair with a shower cap and put on my heating cap to aid in the conditioning. After 10 minutes, I washed my hair out in cold water to lock in the moisture. What I liked, was that it left my hair my soft and curls defined. Especially compared to before when my hair felt more on the brittle side after removing my wig.
KNOT ON MY WATCH Instant Detangling Therapy
Knot On My Watch is a detangler that claims to help the comb glide through hard to manage hair. Not only leaving it tangle-free and protected from breakage but moisturized. You can apply it to wet or dry hair.
One thing I always felt like my hair arsenal lacked was a good, dedicated detangler. Usually, I would just detangle during the conditioning process. But I realised it was not enough, what would I do when my hair needed some in between wash care? I found the product to be very watery, which I was not expecting. I have coarse, thick hair, how was this going to detangle it? But I was surprised when I went through each section and finger detangled from root to end with ease. Still, I’m very on the fence about the consistency of it though I do think it makes for a good leave-in.
SOFT ALL OVER Multi-Purpose Oil Therapy
Soft All Over is the flaxseed line’s own multi-purpose oil. You can use it not only on your hair but on your body too.
I think this is my favourite of the line. As soon as I applied it, my hair drank it up. It’s a good mixture of oils and is light-weight. It left my hair feeling even softer, almost immediately. And I could not be happier.
SEAL IT UP Hydrating Sealing Butter
Seal It Up is a moisture-intensive seal butter that protects your hair and locks in moisture.
In my opinion, this product is a dream and you need it in your L.O.C. regimen. As expected, this product was creamy to touch but not heavy. Though I found myself using it for daily moisture.
I’ve used all these products a couple of times for this review. I wanted to share my opinion after I was sure in my results with the products. Would I recommend these products? Definitely, as someone with 4c hair and who struggles to keep my hair hydrated and moisturized, it’s worth trying.
