As you guys know, I’m taking part in Blogmas this year. I already have my posts planned out and I’m actually taking charge and writing my posts ahead of time. How kick ass is that?! So continuing in the spirit of the jolliest time of year, I decided to do a Christmas Tag. I chose to use the questions from The Enthusiast and I’m so excited to answer them. If you’re curious about my questions, check it out below!
1. What is your favorite Christmas film?
My favorite Christmas film by far is absolutely Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas. I remember going to see it at the cinema as a child. And it stuck with me ever since. I used to watch the cartoon version of the Dr. Seuss story and always thought the Grinch was mean. But this movie really made me change my perception of him. I was absolutely happy when the live action movie eventually ended up on Cartoon Network’s Christmas movie marathons. Even to this day, I make sure to watch this movie ever year.
2. Have you ever had a White Christmas?
So I live in the Caribbean which is all tropical, so I have never experienced a White Christmas. And I’d actually be super worried if it snowed in Barbados. My country is definitely not prepared for it haha. And unfortunately I haven’t been able to travel to a country that experiences Winter during the season. But I hope to in the future.
3. Where do you usually spend your holiday?
I usually spend my holiday at home with my family. Which is just me, my mom and my brother. It’s always been like that but I have enjoyed myself nonetheless. Though last year I did spend Boxing Day at my long time friend’s house, if it counts for anything.
4. What is your favorite Christmas song?
Oh gosh, I have so many. I absolutely looove Christmas songs. I actually have a list of songs in both English and Japanese. If I had to choose, it’d be a tie between 12 Days of Christmas and Mariah Carey’s All I Want For Christmas Is You. 12 Days is really long and I mean long, but I always like to hear it at least once in the season. And I’m a fan of Mariah’s music so it’s no surprise that I like her Christmas music too, I even bought her two Holiday albums. I plan on doing a list of my favorite Holiday music for you guys in the near future.
5. Do you open any presents on Christmas Eve?
No, we don’t have that tradition at home. But as kids, my brother and I used to look for the gifts my mother had hidden for us. If they were not wrapped, we used to open the toys and played with them. Then before she got back home, we’d seal it back up and pretended nothing happened. We thought that we were so clever, it’s disgusting haha.
6. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeer?
Okay let’s try this, I’m not going to Google the names either. On Dancer, on Prancer, on Vixen, on Cupid, on Blitzen, and Rudolph, and that’s as much as I got. I even have to include the ‘on’ to remember their names. And I’m pretty sure that’s not all of them.
7. What holiday traditions are you looking forward to most this year?
My family doesn’t really take part in any traditions. Mostly just my mom buying malt drinks and black cake. But I’m looking forward to taking part in my boyfriend’s traditions with his friends on Christmas Eve. It usually includes seeing family and bar hopping around the South coast of the island.
8. Is your Christmas tree real or fake?
Definitely fake, real Christmas trees are a bit on the expensive side because they have to imported into the country. And while they smell oh so wonderful, my mom hates that they decay and doesn’t want to spend the spend the time cleaning up the mess haha.
9. What is your all-time favorite holiday food/sweet treat?
Black cake, this is the one that I love the absolute most. Black cake is also known as a rum cake. Which as the name suggests, it’s a dessert cake which contains rum. If you look at the pictures of online, it is super-duper black and oh so sweet. Also if you’re not careful, you can a bit tipsy off of it. I really want to share the recipe of it with you guys.
10. Be honest: do you like giving gifts or receiving gifts better?
I love giving gifts better. Especially if I can give someone a gift they end up loving. It feels me with a warm, fuzzy feeling. And I’m not going to lie, it also gives me a little sense of pride.
11. What is the best Christmas gift you’ve ever received?
The best Christmas present that I’ve ever received was back I was really young. My godmother bought me a lovely jewelry making kit. I could make bracelets, earrings, necklaces. There were a variety of colors included in this large kit. My mom and I spent days on top of days making tons of jewelry. I would love to get kit like that again, it really was the foundation of my creative explosion.
12. What would be your dream place to visit for the holiday season?
I think maybe Canada. I say that because it snows so much there. I’d love to experience a white Christmas honestly. Plus I have some friends there that I’d like to visit.
13. Are you a pro-present wrapper, or do you fail miserably?
So here’s the thing, I don’t usually wrap my own gifts but I’m decent. I usually like to hand the wrapping duties over to my mom who is a BOSS at it. Or I get a holiday bag and stuff it with tissue paper and add the gift. But since I’m an adult, I’m going to try harder to wrap my own gifts lol.
14. Most memorable Holiday moment?
This is probably when I was in nursery/kindergarten school, when one of our teachers dressed up as Santa Claus, and the children in my class chased after the teacher for gifts. It was hilarious, afterwards a gift was given out to all the children. If I remember right, I got a blue, marble colored ball. I loved that ball so much.
15. What made you realize the truth about Santa?
The moment when I realised that there’s no chimneys in the Caribbean lol. Honestly I was confused about how he could even get into our house. So I asked my mom and that’s when I learned Santa Clause isn’t real. I don’t remember being too shocked, as I was just content with getting gifts.
16. Do you make New Years resolutions? Do you stick to them?
I do. Every single year, but it’s a toss up if I stick to them or now. This year was the first where I actually accomplished more than just one resolution.
17. What makes the holidays special for you?
The fact that it’s the time of the year where everyone in my household get to sit down together and eat. The season fills me with such a warm, fuzzy feeling. And honestly it’s just the least hectic time of the year for me.
From this point I decided to add in my own questions. I just wanted to make a bit in the spirit, to make a total of 24 questions. If you decide to use my questions, then please do by all means.
18. What is your favorite holiday drink?
Sorrel! I love sorrel drinks so much. To me when I think of a drink in the Caribbean we drink during Christmas, it would be that. It’s so sweet and really popular in my household so it definitely doesn’t last. And the best thing of all, you can add extra ingredients like lime juice, to fit your tastes.
19. What do you wish for Christmas this year?
For tangible items? Maybe money or a graphics tablet. The latter because I want to get back into art and it could help me with freelancing. Otherwise, I’d like to have good health and a better year in 2017.
20. What is your favorite Christmas scent?
It’s a toss up between gingerbread and vanilla. My mom always loves to add those vanilla scented candles around during Christmas time. Therefore it’s something I’ve always associated with the holiday season.
21. Does your Christmas tree/decorations have a color scheme? If so, what is it?
You bet, my mom is the one who chooses the color scheme. Ours is usually a mixture of chocolate, orange and bronze. It’s very different from the the norm, so I’d like to snap some pictures for you all.
22. If you could only buy one person a gift this year, who would it be?
My boyfriend. It’s going to be our first Christmas together, so I want to him something nice.
23. What is your favorite Christmas cartoon special/movie?
So I can’t be the only one who still watches cartoons, right? I remember watching The Life & Adventures of Santa Claus years ago. I’ve always love the take the movie had on Santa Claus, especially with the inclusions of fairies and nymphs.
24. When you think of Christmas? What comes to mind?
I think of snowflakes and the colors red and white. Just a very jolly and festive feeling!
So this is my Christmas tag and I hope you all enjoyed it. If you want by all means take part and link me to the post that you make on it. I’d absolutely love to read it.
